A hectic scene met me on arrival in Kathmandu airport. People everywhere, humidity, people people and more people. It was hectic yes, but more than that, friendly. Anyone I asked for help was more than willing to help. And help I needed, with directions. As a chronically lost individual, I can never find my way around, especially when there was no wifi in the airport. As I was leaving to my overnight stay before heading to Bhutan the next morning, about a hundred taxi drivers were outside the airport either holding signs for someone or saying ‘taxi ma’am?’. It was an entire line of taxi drivers, for what felt like about 400m as you exit the airport. Thankfully, they were also friendly, as I asked ‘which way to airport hotel?’ and was directed to a building across the parking lot.
The next day I had a flight in business class to Bhutan with Druk air. This was my first time in business class, which I had booked because economy was completely sold out! I had to catch this flight otherwise I would be late for the tour commencing, and so business it was. I felt like a VIP in the business lounge, sipping my coffee and watching the flight boarding times. Got a nice cocktail as I sat in the business class seat on the flight.
The flight to Bhutan goes past the majestic Himalayas, I was going to wave to Everest on the way to Bhutan and on the way back! I booked an Everest sight seeing flight from Nepal for when I return to Kathmandu in 7 days, but little did I know the best view of Everest would be on the way to and from Bhutan.
Buddha Air, Mountain flight
Back in Kathmandu over a week later, I woke up at 4am to catch a 6am mountian flight with Buddha Air. This flight is meant for sightseeing of the Himalayas. On this flight, I saw Everest again, but on this day, the weather was not ideal and so I felt so lucky that I went to Bhutan and saw it from business class. It all worked out in the end. I will be making a video of my experience, as I took much more video footage than photos in both Bhutan and Nepal.
